Eighth graders Kaya Bane, Grace Blakely, and Giselle Marsteller represented the Seton Catholic band in the All-Region Honor Band East performance at Centerville High School last weekend. In total, 19 schools participated. The performance was presented by the Indiana Bandmasters Association and was one of several other regional performances held across the state on Sunday. Band students in grades 6 -8 apply in September and are selected based on recommendations from their band director and instrument need. Sharing talent in the area of flute, trombone and French horn the girls were selected.
All three girls, returning to All-Region for the 2
nd consecutive year, had early morning rehearsals with SCHS band director, Mr. Schroeder, and gave up a Saturday to refine their skills and rehearse with 96 other musicians from the area before the Sunday performance. Seven pieces were rehearsed and performed, including a popular John Williams Movie Adventures piece featuring title music from Star Wars, Jurassic Park and E.T.
The concert was conducted by Mr. Murray Weaver, band director at Discovery Middle School in Granger, Indiana. Mr. Weaver received his undergraduate music degree in music education from Ball State University and master degree from the American Band College at Southern Oregon University.
