Congratulations on a fantastic start to 2016 for the Varsity Boys Basketball team! The boys have pulled wins against Hagerstown, Tri-County North and Wes-Del since the start of the new year. Freshmen Trent Reichley was the leading scorer with 21 points in the game against Tri County North on January 5.
Senior guard Desmond Bane continues to receive attention from college scouts for his outstanding performances. Bane was recently named the WKBV Wetzel Auto Wayne County Athlete of the Week for leading the team to a 3rd place finish in the 16-team Wettig Tournament while being named the tourney's Most Outstanding Player over Christmas vacation. The Varsity Boys defeated 4A schools Richmond and Warren Central and 3A Hamilton Heights. He averaged 32.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 3.5 steals, and 3.8 blocks during the tourney while shooting 75% from the field, which included 16-19 on 3-pointers. He set tourney records for total points (130), total rebounds (50), total 3-pointers (16), and single game 3-pointers (6). He finished the week with 37 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, and 4 blocks in a 65-55 win against Hagerstown on January 2nd.
Last weekend the Cardinals were at it again in the Hickory Classic at the Knightstown Hoosier Gym. This time we extend congratulations to Desmond Bane and Billie Webster III who were named to the Super Hoops Plus All-Hickory Classic Teams. Desmond was named to the 1st Team after scoring 32 points and Billie was named to the 2nd Team for his 21-point effort. The team was victorious over Wes-Del in the event by a score of 69-45.
