We are thrilled to announce that Seton Catholic High School teacher Mrs. Kim Dorsten has been named the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year! Her passion and love for American history and civic responsibility hooks her students to learn every single day in the classroom.
“Her creative and unique style of teaching opens opportunities for students to ask and discuss the history of America in a way that gives her students better understanding. She makes the dullest of subjects exciting and memorable, “says Principal John Markward.
Mr. Markward adds, “Mrs. Dorsten is a big supporter of the DAR and YMI essays, and leaves her mark on every student. If you were to ask any alum about their favorite teacher, Mrs. Dorsten is an overwhelming response. She is the teacher that students will talk about with their children in 25 years when they are discussing American history, and will tell them about the great experience they had with her.”
A humble educator for 20 years (17 years with Seton Catholic) sharing general social studies, World History, U.S. History, and government with students in grades 8 -12, Dorsten takes no credit for her teaching success. “My students work hard every day and that has allowed me to become a good teacher,” she said.
Join us in congratulating Mrs. Dorsten on this honor!
