“No matter where your career interests lie, explore the call to something bigger than yourself—communities, churches, schools, nonprofit organizations, healthcare providers, and other groups need talented engaged leaders who are filled with the compassion, light, and love of their faith.” This statement can be found on the Marian University San Damiano Scholars Program webpage.
A few of the qualifications to be considered for the San Damiano program include strong academics, demonstrated leadership in one’s school, church and community, and the desire to serve or work in a faith-based capacity after earning your bachelor's degree.
Yesterday morning Seton Catholic High School welcomed Patrick Verhily, Director of the Missionary Disciples Institute at Marian University, and Elizabeth Ortlepp, Recuiter for the program, to a brief gathering of the student body. At this time, Mr. Verhily and Ms. Ortlepp announced that SCHS Senior, Trent Reichley, had been named a San Damiano Scholar.
Trent is the son of Dr. Tina and Mr. Dan Reichley, who were present for the announcement, along with family friend and Seton Catholic Schools President, Mr. Rick Ruhl. A significant financial scholarship comes along with the honor and acceptance into the program.
“We are blessed with such great young adults. Trent is a perfect example of someone who leads by example and yet is humble with every step. This award is just another example of the great leadership that Trent brings to Seton Catholic. Today was a special day getting to surprise him with the honor of being a San Damiano Scholar. He is one that is not all about the fanfare and would never tell a person about this, so we felt that we needed to make sure that he was recognized,” said Mr. John Markward, SCHS Principal.
