Sponsored by our local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post, the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves through a recorded essay on a democratic and patriotic-theme or topic. Each year, nearly 40,000 9-12 grade students from across the country enter to win their share of $2 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program. Congratulations to Hanna Stamm who was awarded a cash prize of $75 for her 1st place finish. Congratulations, as well, to Suzanne Becker who was awarded a cash prize of $50 for her 2nd place finish. Congratulations to Erica Barker who was awarded a cash prize of $25 for her 3rd place finish.
Sponsored by our local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post, the Patriots Pen Essay Contest is a national essay competition which gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme. Students in grades 6-8 are invited to participate. The 2016-17 Theme is “The America I Believe In.” Congratulations to Jonah Falcone who

Hanna Stamm's essay was forwarded to the District Level which includes Connersville, Liberty, Richmond, Union City, Shelbybille, Knightstown, Fortville, Greenfield, and New Castle. Hanna won the District level as well! Her essay has now been promoted to the State Level VFW Voice of Democracy contest. Good luck Hannah!
