On June 23, Seton Catholic High School sent eleven students to the 12
th annual Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Student Leadership Conference at Plainfield High School. In addition to those 11 students, senior Jacob Stamm also serves on the IHSAA Student Advisory Committee and was an integral part in hosting the event. All students were selected by members of the administration of Seton Catholic High School.
While at the Student Leadership Conference, individuals had the opportunity to hear from more than 40 speakers on topics such as leadership, sportsmanship, commitment, and team building. This year the spotlight was again placed on sportsmanship. Conference speakers focused on how to create a culture of good sportsmanship in our school. Schools were invited to share ideas with the rest of the membership, with the goal being that everyone can work toward developing an environment where good sportsmanship is an expectation, not just an ideal.
Our student-athletes interacted with fellow athletes from across the state of Indiana. These types of events allow our student-athletes to develop relationships with athletes both on and off the field. Student-athletes are then able to bring back this new found information to share with their teammates. More than 1,000 students and 110 schools attend this conference every year. It is truly a special event and one our students enjoyed again this year.
Additionally, we are pleased to announce that senior Jacob Stamm was recently voted Vice President of the IHSAA Student Advisory Committee. This is a huge honor for Jacob as the SAC is essentially the Student Council of the IHSAA. They represent over 400 schools and all of the student-athletes in each of those schools. Prior to his junior year Jacob was selected as one of 18 students to be a member of the SAC and he began his two-year term. He has taken on many leadership roles as a member of the SAC including working with Special Olympics, assisting with state championship events, organizing the Student Leadership Conference, and many more.
