Congratulations to SCHS senior Maria Stiens who just received a four-year,
full-tuition scholarship to an Indiana public or private college of her
choice after being named a Lilly Endowment Community Scholar by the Wayne
County Foundation. In addition to the cost of tuition, Maria will also
receive a $900 annual stipend for books and other materials. Obviously,
that will all come in very handy as she heads off to Purdue University in
the fall.
Lisa Bates, Program Officer with the Wayne County Foundation, presented
the award to a stunned Maria and her parents Friday morning. Maria is the
second Seton Catholic senior in school history to earn this very
prestigious scholarship. Adam Schroeder, now in his junior year at IUPUI,
was named a Lilly Endowment Community Scholar in 2013.
Maria, who is the daughter of Greg and Julie Stiens, will attend Purdue
University where she will major in Applied Exercise and Health and she
plans to become an Occupational Therapist. Way to go, Maria!
