The 2017 Soccer Sectional Championship delivered on the hype as local rivals Seton Catholic and Centerville needed extra time on a windy day in Knightstown to decide who would take home the trophy. Centerville scored in the early minutes of the match, but late in the first half senior Trey Bartkus threw the ball into the box, and it was played out to junior Nate Dickman who completed a pass directly to the waiting boots of junior Sam Brenneke who turned and put the ball into the back of the net to tie the match at 1-1.
Both sides battled in a scoreless second half ultimately sending it to extra time. Seton Catholic prevailed as a penalty kick was awarded to Sam Brenneke in the first seven minute period of extra time, and he converted to put Seton up 2-1. Another penalty kick was awarded to Sam Brenneke in the second period of extra time, and again converted to make the final score 3-1.
Sam Brenneke scored 3 goals on the day, and Nate Dickman had 1 assist. Seton Catholic will play Indianapolis Scecina Memorial in the Regional Semifinals at Knightstown on Saturday, October 14. Kickoff is at 10 am. If Seton wins they will play at 7 pm for the Regional Championship against Greenwood Christian or Covenant Christian.
