Hannah Stamm, Erica Barker, Suzanne Becker and Jonah Falcone were recognized in front of the student body this week for their participation and success in the 2016 Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy contests. The contests are sponsored jointly by the local Kirk-Little VFW 1108 post and the VFW Auxiliary. The awards were presented by Mr. Ron Weadick of the VFW, and Wanda Mathena of the Auxiliary.
The Patriot’s Pen contest is open to students in grades 6 -8 nationally. There are three levels beginning locally, advancing to the regional and ultimately the national level. Writing on the theme “The American I Believe In”, Jonah Falcone placed 2
nd in the local competition.
Writing on the topic of “My Responsibility to America,” Erica Barker finished in 3
rd place locally while Suzanne Becker finished in 2
nd place locally in the Voice of Democracy contest for 2016 open to grades 9 -12. Writing on the same topic, Hannah Stamm advanced from the local and regional level, finishing in 4
th place nationally.
