Congratulations to the Seton Catholic varsity girls track team who was just named the WKBV Wetzel Family Auto Cruise Wayne County Cruiser of the Season winner. Although he has coached three years of varsity cross country, this was Todd Barker's first year as varsity track coach. This group of girls trained all year with the goal in mind to peak at the right time and make a huge statement at sectionals and they did just that. With only 13 girls on the team, they scored 99.33 points and placed 3rd at sectionals. Connersville won with 134.83 and Hagerstown was 2nd with 110. Both of those schools had many more athletes competing than we had which made just being in contention impressive. What is more impressive is that we won 7 of the 16 events, including 7 of the 11 track events. Until this year, we had never won a single event and the most points we had scored was 30.
At regionals, we managed to score 12 points. That was more than any other school in the county. Hagerstown was the only other team to score and they scored 7 points. Jenna Barker advanced to the state meet in the 1600m. That marked the first time any Seton athlete has advanced to the state level in any sport. No other girl from the county advanced to state.
While our program is still young, these girls also broke 12 school records this year.
