It was a beautiful October day in Connersville on Saturday, when the Cardinal Varsity Cross Country team showed up with their eye on Regionals.
Jacob Stamm finished the boy’s race in first place with a time of 16 minutes, 12 seconds -47 seconds ahead of his closest competitor. "As a senior, everything was going through my head before the race. I felt really great for a run today, and it was an excellent day," Jacob Stamm. "Now, I just need to taper down starting this week and push harder through the race next week to finish high and move on the next race. My goal is to get to state."
The girl’s race was also taken by a Cardinal runner. Jenna Barker won with a time of 20 minutes -38 seconds ahead of the 2
nd place runner. "I'm happy with the win. I think it's the best time on this course, which is pretty tough," Barker said. "At the same time, I know that I have to get better, mentally and with my conditioning, to finish in the top three next week at regional, and get on to state later. That is an uphill battle for me, but I believe I can get there."
Overall five individual Cardinal runners will advance to Regionals on Saturday, October 17 at Rushville. Join us in wishing Jenna, Jacob, Jack Brenneke, Leanne Brenneke and Hannah Stamm the best of luck!
