The pressure of a college readiness exam like the SAT or ACT can be tremendous on our teens. Recently, Seton Catholic High School provided students with the opportunity to take the SAT test during the regular school day. This is a relatively new program put in place by College Board during the 2016 -2017 school year. SAT School Day eliminates the pressure of registering online ahead of time, getting up early on a Saturday and driving to a local testing site.
Thirty-seven of our high school students selected to take advantage of this chance to take the test in a comfortable environment during their regular day was a huge bonus. The student simply signed up in the office, and the school did the rest as far as registration.
SAT School Day provided additional benefits for Low-Income Students. Students that are enrolled or eligible to participate in the National School Lunch Program, whose annual family income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, they’re enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families, their family receives public assistance, they live in federally subsidized public housing or a foster home, or are homeless; or are a ward of the state or an orphan receive these additional benefits:
Four additional free score sends
Four college application fee waivers
Free Student Answer Service or Question-and-Answer Service
To make the SAT even more accessible to students, the College Board has worked with educators to provide testing supports for English language learners (ELL).
Schools participating in SAT School Day received special benefits too! They received free access to the full SAT Suite of Assessments. These benefits include an interactive online reporting portal that makes it easy to access and analyze score data across every assessment in the suite (SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, and PSAT 8/9), actionable progress measurement (tracking performance across tests allows teachers to identify areas where students need help), and our students received personalized study resources based on their test results through Khan Academy —completely free of charge.
